For Angela Allured (Lang), San Marin Performing Arts laid the foundation for a career devoted to music education—where discipline, teamwork, and a love of performance became the skills she now passes on to her own students every day.
Today, Angela is a music educator in Calaveras Unified School District, where she has spent the past 20 years teaching students from elementary through high school. From concert band and marching band to choir, guitar, and musical theater pit orchestras, she continues to inspire the next generation of musicians while pursuing advanced studies in music education.
Career HighlightsAfter graduating from San Marin, Angela attended the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music, earning a degree in Music Education with a concentration in flute. She later completed a Master's degree in Instrumental Conducting through the American Band College at Sam Houston State University.
Over the past two decades, she has taught music across grades 5–12, directing concert bands, marching bands, choirs, guitar programs, and pit orchestras for high school musicals. She is currently pursuing an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Music Education through the Longy School of Music of Bard College, continuing her commitment to lifelong learning as an educator.
Angela's philosophy centers on helping students discover confidence, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for music. She works to create "a culture of family where each student is valued and respected," and her ensembles consistently earn Gold, Superior, and Unanimous Superior ratings at music festivals.
“Jazz Choir was my favorite class, and my favorite memories were all of the trips we went on—especially having the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall. That was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!”
Reflection & AdviceReflecting on her time at San Marin, Angela says the lessons she learned extended well beyond the rehearsal room.
"Time management and discipline were important skills that I took away from my time at San Marin."
She credits Emily Gates as one of the most influential educators in her life and remembers the Performing Arts program as a place where students could pursue multiple passions.
"Mrs. Gates was my favorite teacher and made a huge impact on me as both a student and educator. I loved being able to participate in band, jazz choir, and musical theater—both in the pit orchestra and on stage."
Among her favorite memories are the Jazz Choir tours and the unforgettable opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall.
