For Tobey Lynn Reyes, San Marin Performing Arts was where ambition, creativity, and the confidence to pursue music all came together. Through Jazz Choir and Rock Band, she found both a place to perform and the freedom to imagine where music could take her next.
After graduating from San Marin, Tobey attended Chapman University, where she studied TV Writing and Production with a minor in Music Business. While in college, she continued developing her artist project, performing live and releasing music under the name Tobey Lynn.
Career HighlightsNow based in Los Angeles, Tobey works in PR and entertainment as an executive assistant while continuing to write, record, and perform music.
Over the past several years, she has continued building her career as an independent artist, performing throughout Los Angeles and collaborating with producers including Tom Crouch, Brett Kramer, and Rachel St. Marseille. She has opened for artists including Rocco, Alix Page, and Emei, and headlined her own show at El Cid in Los Angeles.
Tobey has also spent much of the past year in and out of the studio working on her sophomore EP, continuing to develop her sound alongside a close circle of musicians, producers, and creative collaborators.
“San Marin’s music program has always shown me that you truly can go wherever your heart desires.”
REFLECTIONS & ADVICELooking back, Tobey credits San Marin with giving her the freedom to explore multiple interests without feeling that she had to choose just one path.
“San Marin’s music program has always shown me that you truly can go wherever your heart desires.”
She remembers being able to participate in music while also exploring sports, journalism, and other interests, and says that sense of openness helped shape the way she approached her own goals.
“I never felt limited. In fact, I always felt like I could do more.”
Some of her strongest memories come from performing with Rock Band at HopMonk, where she first began to experience what it felt like to perform with a band in a live venue.
“The energy was always the most fun, and we truly felt like rock stars up on that stage.”
For current San Marin students, Tobey encourages them to take advantage of every opportunity to explore, collaborate, and push beyond what feels familiar.
“Do it all! Step out of your comfort zone, collaborate with friends—new and old—and don’t be afraid to step into who you truly are meant to become. Being a pop star—or following your dreams—really does start at San Marin Performing Arts. ;)”
